I have been riveted to the news as of late.  The announcement of Prince William's engagement to the adorable Kate Middleton has captured my imagination and that of the majority of the world's female population.  Her engagement ring is the epitome of why I love jewelry.  The sapphire ring itself, although pretty, is not the most impressive jewelry I've ever seen.  The Garrard ring was purchased for only $60,000.  The fact that it was once worn by one of the most iconic women of the 20th century makes the ring invaluable to most.   I love that a man would give a ring that was once worn by the woman he loved as a child, to a woman that he adores now.  The history of the ring is what is invaluable.  Jewelry should reflect your personal history.

If there wasn't already a Diana Ring, I might have preferred something along the lines of these sapphire rings.  The Art Deco design is definitely my fave.  You can be fairly certain that whatever Prince W. pulled out of his rucksack in Kenya, she would have said yes.
